3D MMOG Concept

Hi all!

Today’s update wont be some special update or post about game development, rather a concept that has been floating around in my head.

This concept is to create a MMOG that is every type of MMO. Yup, I just blew your mind- but let me explain while you piece your brain back together.

The concept is to make a MMOG that you can create anyone you want to be: a gladiator, a pirate, a cyborg, whatever. Then, explore a world with everything. You can travel through forests, magical lands, floating islands, dojos, sail the sea, space platforms, and others.

Then, include combat- but optional combat. The game does not require combat against enemies, but you can if you want to. And questing, for extra adventures.

But, now it’s a matter of how to start a project like this. It’s a crazy idea, and ambitious, but it can be done. If I can put together a small development team (preferably of people I know, but that may change), then I might use a service such as “Kickstarter” to raise financial support.

So, who knows where this concept will go. And I haven’t revealed the half of it. It’s weird, and ambitious, but could be amazing if perfected.

Avatar Chat Development Progress: The first room & graphics issues

Hi all!

I’m back again to make another post regarding an update about my basic Avatar Chat!

First off, I’ve been doing a room design. And I guarantee, you shan’t be stunned by it- at all. In fact, well, it just isn’t that great (for now). At this point the room has a yellow circle called the sun, some cartoony clouds (I don’t know why- but I have a pleasure for cartoony clouds), a blue sky, a grass area, some evergreen trees, a dirt path, and some peebles.

Thats not to attractive of a room, but right now there is a difference between what I have imagined, and what I can actually do. I want to keep this first room basic so I can easily program everything and make sure it functions correctly. As long as that starts working right, I can get a little more advanced from there.

I have no image of the room available at the moment, but I may upload an image for you guys sometime soon.

I’ve also run into a bit of a problem (and who knows, maybe one of the readers or people who stumble along this blog can help me out!), when I put the Photoshop image into Flash, the picture becomes degraded in quality. The only places that degrade in quality is where I either used the blur effect, or where I tried using the paint brush.

Aside from that, the overall project is going quite well!

Birthday 2012

It’s official, I’m 15.

Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday!

I got some gaming eyewear (they are handy for staring at screens for a long time), an App Store gift card, and quite a bit of money.

Although I could really enjoy my birthday any way I wanted, I chose to go to a nice restaurant for dinner, and I spent the rest of the day normally, playing games and doing some work (game development).

Overall, I had a good day!

Development of a Basic Avatar Chat

Hi all!

So I’ve recently been working a bit more in Adobe CS5- quite the fancy bundle of programs. I’m familiar with Photoshop and can use it fairly well. As for Adobe Flash, I can use the “Designer” panel and do some basics, nothing special.

Awhile ago, I played a game that was an advanced avatar chat, more commonly referred to as a MMOG (massively multiplayer online game). I was very familiar with the game, and knew a lot about the games history.

Awhile ago, after the game was bought out by a large company, the original creator of the game left the company and restarted his old business that he ran before getting into the MMOG.

He has been requested multiple times to give tutorials on how to make your own virtual world. I jumped into his blog and am following the series every step he posts. (He makes one post on making your character, then a few days later making the world, etc.).

I am currently following his basic guide on a creating a basic avatar chat. All the tutorial will be covering is making an avatar, making the character move on-screen, making the game multiplayer (so users can sign on to the game and see each other, as well as chat), chat (with filters to prevent inappropriate language), rooms, and the function to move between rooms (for example, clicking a door and the on-screen character will walk up to the door and be moved into the next room), and a simple system for the user to chose a username before connecting to the game.

I may not have mentioned everything, but that’s the generalities of what I’m doing.

Some of you may think that what I listed above isn’t basic, but, believe me… It is. What’s not basic is when you add coins, mini games, catalogs, inventories, equipping items to avatars, housing, registration, etc.

This really is only a side project to learn Flash and ActionScript so I can use them both better. If I can expand upon this project and make it better, I may. But ultimately, if I’m going to make a more advanced avatar chat, I’ll probably develop a different game in the future. But, we’ll see what the future holds.

I plan on posting progress of the game here on this blog. I may be posting updates, pictures, and maybe some other stuff to keep you guys posted.

I will be releasing the game to the general public to play and test out when I’m done, so stay tuned for when I post that update as well.

New Year 2012

Hey everyone!

First off, Happy New Years!!! I’m excited for this new year and what it has in store for us all! I’m certainly hoping for more ups than downs right now, as I am expecting everyone is.

Apparently, to celebrate the New Year, during the first few minutes we were supposed to do something special. For me, that was switching on a gaming live stream (I certainly hope I didn’t go overboard with that kind of celebration).

This year I have quite a few things I want to get done, starting with my new “job” (at the moment we work as volunteers, but we will get paid when the game is published) as Design Director for a game project. For those who don’t know what that is, as far as I know, I will be in charge of handling anything that the user experiences to make sure it is well done and fun, and after the game releases, managing new content and balancing everything correctly. As of now, I’m not going to say much due to the fact that I will be under contract that will prevent me from leaking certain information- so I’m not going to say much until i know what I can say.

I don’t really have any big goals aside from that for this year, so I think that’s really it.

Back to school Tuesday, great.

A merry Christmas!

First off, Merry Christmas to everyone!

Well, Christmas 2011 was quite enjoyable this year! I got a variety of things this year. I got warm and fuzzy pants for lounging around (I originally thought they were only for bed, but apparently I do enough lounging around to wear them all of the time-thanks mom and dad–but I admit it is true). I’ll most likely wear those to bed tonight. I also got some pretty old model cars that are banks (they are vintage cars)- they were given to me by my grandma (they were originally my grandfathers). That was a neat gift. I also received the Steve Jobs biography! I’ll start reading that sometime soon. I also got a GameStop and mall gift card!

But, the biggest gift I received was a 32 gb iPod Touch. I let it install the 2 hour update while I was at the Christmas day church service. I’ve gotten used to the small keyboard, and thank God for the auto-correcting feature which fixes all misspelled words automatically (sometimes I bump the wrong buttons). I’m posting from the iPod right now!

Apple iMac 10.6.4! + Adobe CS5 Web Premium!

Hey!

I am super excited because 2 nights ago our family got a new Apple iMac, version: 10.6.4! (Yep, that’s the newest version!) It’s amazing compared to our other 10.4.11. It is fast, neat new apps, and a great display to name a few!

To make it better (for me), my dad got me Adobe CS5 Web Premium! Installed tonight, and now I just have to figure out how to use it!

Yet another game project: Pirates of the Seven Seas!

Hey Guys!

Yesterday, I was at a friends house. Him and me both play a pirate game. Not surprisingly (since he really enjoys weapons- and owns a few), he likes: pirates. We were talking as soon as we were about to get out of his pool about how cool it would be to make a pirate game- I personally had considered it too. He then looked at me and said, “Brandon, we should make a pirate game”. Of course, since I enjoy computers and building virtual worlds, (and even own my own company, H Tech (http://www.HTech.tk/). The gaming division of H Tech is: Splash Games (the website for Splash Games is unavailable at the moment)) I said “YEAH!”. Of course we started talking about the game, and planning it out.

Now, I have already said “Yes” to making the game, and, of course, I am still working on my other game: Medieval Warrior. (Visit the Medieval Warrior official forum, Click Here!)

Now, I am really going to be busy building virtual worlds!!!
